Continuing Professional Development

ACHENA is responsible for accrediting continuing professional development (CPD) courses to meet the needs of professional homeopaths in practice.  The focus of CPD courses is on helping professional homeopaths meet the challenges of daily practice and grow in their understanding and application of Classical Homeopathy as defined in the document titled  Standards for Education and Competencies for the Professional Homeopathic Practitioner in North America.  ACHENA’s approval process includes careful review by a committee of ACHENA commissioners to ensure that courses approved for CPD hours will truly support the professional growth of the practicing homeopath.

As non-licensed professional homeopaths explore the new ideas in homeopathy presented in CPD courses, it is essential that they evaluate new ideas in the context of understanding of Classical Homeopathy, avoid “guaranteeing” any specific health outcomes and communicate clearly to clients that they do not diagnose or treat disease in their practice

The purpose of professional development for the practicing classical homeopath is threefold:

  1. Address gaps in practice, fine tune skills and provide training on advanced topics beyond those outlined in the Professional Homeopathic Practitioner Program of Study (see ACHENA Accreditation Manual, Standard 8);

  2. Enhance practice management skills, strengthen communication and interviewing skills and to provide exposure to new ideas in the field;

  3. Reinforce, integrate and apply learning obtained during the Professional Homeopathic Practitioner Program of Study.

In keeping with the above, ACHENA approves CPD courses in three categories.  When selecting a CPD course, practicing homeopaths are encouraged to review the Category of Approval granted by ACHENA to best understand the focus of the program.

Category One courses offer material to help practitioners address gaps in practice, fine tune skills and master advanced topics beyond the standards outlined in the ACHENA Accreditation Manual’s Standard 8 for the Professional Homeopathic Practitioner Program of Study.

Category Two courses build capacity for successful practice including topics addressing practice management skills, communication skills and/or provide exposure to new ideas in the field. ACHENA supports academic freedom and healthy debate within the homeopathic community.

Category Three courses focus on reinforcing and integrating learning obtained during the during the Professional Homeopathic Practitioner Program of Study.
